Frequently Asked Questions
macOS says the app "can't be opened" or "Apple could not verify…" (Gatekeeper)
This is expected on first launch. Faste is an independent app and current releases are not yet notarized by Apple, so macOS shows a caution dialog the first time you open it. It takes about 20 seconds to get past, once — full illustrated steps on the install guide.
- macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later: double-click Faste → in the dialog choose Done (not "Move to Trash") → open System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down → click Open Anyway next to Faste → confirm. From then on it opens normally.
- macOS 13–14 (Ventura / Sonoma): in Applications, Control-click (right-click) Faste → Open → click Open in the dialog.
Two things that always apply: only download the DMG from faste.dev (you can verify the SHA-256 checksum published on the download page), and drag Faste to Applications first — launch it from there, not from inside the DMG. If it still won't open, email us with your macOS version.
The ⌘⇧V hotkey doesn't open Faste
Another app is probably claiming the same shortcut (common culprits: paste-style features in other clipboard tools, launchers like Raycast/Alfred, or per-app "Paste and Match Style" bindings).
- Quit other clipboard managers, or disable their conflicting shortcut.
- Check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → App Shortcuts for a conflicting ⌘⇧V binding.
- You can change Faste's hotkey in Settings if you prefer a different combination.
"Paste immediately" doesn't paste anything
Paste-immediately mode needs the macOS Accessibility permission (granted once): System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → enable Faste. If it's already enabled but not working, toggle it off and on, then relaunch Faste. Without this permission, selecting an item still copies it — you can paste manually with ⌘V.
My screenshots don't appear in the history
macOS saves screenshots to the Desktop as files by default, so they never touch the clipboard. Point them at the clipboard instead:
- Press ⌘⇧5 → click Options → under Save to, choose Clipboard.
After that, every screenshot lands in Faste automatically. For a one-off, hold Control while taking a screenshot (e.g. ⌃⌘⇧4) to send it to the clipboard.
Some things I copy never show up
That's by design in two cases:
- Passwords / sensitive items copied from password managers (1Password, Bitwarden, Keychain, …) are marked concealed/transient and are never recorded.
- Apps on your exclusion list (Settings → Privacy) are ignored entirely.
Also note the clipboard is checked on a polling interval (configurable in Settings) — with a long interval, copying two things in very quick succession can capture only the latest.
Where is my data stored?
Everything lives on your Mac, nothing in the cloud:
~/Library/Application Support/Faste/
├── metadata/ # one JSON file per history item
├── images/ # original images & screenshots
├── cache/ # thumbnails
└── settings.json # preferences and license state
See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I completely uninstall Faste?
- Quit Faste (menu-bar popup → Quit).
- Delete Faste.app from your Applications folder.
- Remove your data and settings (this also removes your stored license key): in Finder,
choose Go → Go to Folder… and enter
~/Library/Application Support/Faste, then move that folder to the Trash. - If you enabled Launch at Login, remove the entry under System Settings → General → Login Items if it remains.
Can I move my license to a new Mac? What if activation says the key is already in use?
Yes. Your license is tied to you, not to one machine — you may use it on Macs you personally own or control (see the EULA). To move:
- On the old Mac: uninstall Faste (or deactivate the license in Settings → License).
- On the new Mac: install Faste and enter your
FASTE-…key.
Lost your key, or need a transfer to another person or an activation reset? Email [email protected] with your purchase details (order ID or the email you bought with) and we'll sort it out.
Does the trial limit features?
No — the 14-day trial is fully functional. After it ends, the app asks for a license key. Your history is kept locally and is available again as soon as you activate.
How do refunds work?
See our refund policy. Short version: if Faste isn't for you, email us within the refund window and we'll make it right.
